Rethinking Zagreb

Sava Park" or Wave 2 introduces a fresh approach to Zagreb’s urbanism. Located on the south bank of the Sava River, just across from the country’s largest recreational area and a five-minute walk from Arena Zagreb, the project has the potential to become a vibrant pedestrian hub for the city. The design features a series of multi-level pedestrian walkways and parks, flowing organically like the nearby river, shaped by the undulating arrangement of the buildings. One level of pedestrian activity is elevated 5 meters above the park, aligning with the Sava Embankment walkway—one of Zagreb's most popular biking and jogging corridors.

The neighborhood is divided into three zones: a business district with a hotel to the north, a central Water Square, and an Intergenerational Square to the south, which includes a kindergarten, a school, and an elderly care facility.

Two pedestrian bridges are planned: one connecting the neighborhood to the Jarun Lake recreational complex across the river, and the other extending south to a picnic park, integrated with the Intergenerational Square.

The location posed challenges, particularly the noise from Jadranska Avenue to the south. To address this, the buildings were designed in a wave formation, allowing apartments to receive ample southern sunlight while offering stunning views to the north of Mount Sljeme and the Sava River.

The buildings are designed in a way to meander both in floorplan and in section, in that way forming large terraces forming stunning outdoor area to the residents, but also to protect the interior of the apartments from noise coming from the loud Jadranska avenue.
